When alive, President Ho Chi Minh said: “Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese nation is one. River may run dry, mountain may wear out but this true will never change”. Therefore, the Vietnamese people, highland and lowland alike, rich and poor, Southern and Northern, are fully aware of their responsibility for national defense and ready to do anything and go anywhere as required by the country. The national history also shows that never have our forefather surrendered to enemies, neither do we now nor our descendants in the future because the Vietnamese people in general always have enough strength and intelligence to protect every sacred inch of land of our nation. Their feats of arms have gone down in the national history as splendid golden pages. It can be said that knowing how to fight and how to defeat invaders is the military talent of the Vietnamese people that has been affirmed during the years of national construction and defend. The young generation of Vietnam has brought and will always bring into play this tradition so that it becomes the invincible strength of Vietnam. And I am proud that I was born in Vietnam– a heroic nation.
Vietnam in War
Extremely glorious in our people’s history of fighting against foreign invasion were landslide earth-shaking victories such as the Dien Bien Phu, the Ho Chi Minh Campaign. Tracking back to the past, our ancestors won victories in Chi Lang, Bach Dang, Dong Da, even defeated the Yuan-Mon 3 times. Besides, crushed in the Vietnam were the French colonialism, the Japanese fascism and the US imperialism which each of them was a representative of mightiest nations in the period of invading Vietnam. It is not an overstatement that our nation crushed the huge war machine of French Colonists by the Dien Bien Phu victory which was greater, more glorious than any other victories before. A historian wrote: “The landslide, earthshaking Dien Bien Phu Victory has gone down in the history of the Vietnamese nation as an immortal epic and the history of the oppressed nations in the world as another waterloo of the 20th century.” This victory had lifted our nation higher and made the name of Vietnam known in the world map.
Our 4-thousand-year-long history of national construction and defense proves that whether strong or weak, but at no time do our country lack heroes and heroines. So we can firmly believe that at any moment of history, especially at the critical moments there will be leaders willing to sacrifice for the country. As Vietnamese young generation, we should try our best to study well and perfect ourselves to make contribution to building and protecting our country like the president said: “whether or not Vietnam can become glorious, whether or not the Vietnamese nation can be equal footing with other super powers in the five continents depends heavily on your effort in learning.” And certainly, under no circumstances do we surrender our land to the enemy, even an inch of land because each inch of land is deeply saturated with our forefathers’ bone and blood from one generation to another.
