Located in the northern mountainous area near the Vietnamese-Chinese border, Sapa is an ideal place to visit. Sapa features a low average temperature all year round, especially being extremely cold from December to February. A snow even falls in this period of time when temperature drops below freezing point. That snow creates a picturesque town covered in ice that attracts the flocks of visitors.
Besides, anybody who travels Sapa cannot pass up a chance to taste grilled dishes in chilly night winter. There are also other famous food such as Thang Co, Cap Nach pork, seven colors sticky rice that visitors should try.
Mau Son (Lang Son)
To come to Mau Son, visitors have to go through the winding road through small slopes leading to tourist destinations. In Mau Son, it is cool and fresh for people to relax in summer holiday. In winter, the average temperature is relatively low, even has snow falling. And the mountain peak is always covered with fog.
Tourists can witness the magnificent sceneries in Mau Son with a mass of cloud surround a range of verdant mountains; the beauty of streams and waterfalls and occasionally experience snow in winter. They can also enjoy delicacies made from forest vegetables and animals in Mau Son such as Mau Son wine, peaches, rare cockerels with six claws and grilled dishes.
Ha Giang is also regarded as a special place to visit. Visitors come here in early winter when the surrounding scenery was covered by the color of pink buckwheat flowers. In recent years, the field of buckwheat flowers has become a destination. Coming to Ha Giang, you not only can enjoy its beauty of nature but also can meet friendly local people and taste particular cuisine.
Yen Tu is a holy mountain in Vietnam nation. Here, nature is very grandiose and beautiful with thick forest of high trees. This is also a place sacred soul of earth and heaven converged, in which Clear-sighted King Tran Nhan Tong achieved Buddhahood and became a Buddha, in which Truc Lam Yen Tu zen school was originated – a zen school has the Vietnamese character.

Mai Chau Valley (Hoa Binh province)
Despite of not being cold as the above destinations in winter, Mai Chau Valley still be an ideal place to visit. It is endowed with stunning natural beauty; so that tourists are attracted by verdant mountainous scenery, rice fields and fresh air in Mai Chau.
People who live in Mai Chau are mainly Thai people – ethnic minorities. That created particular tribe cultures. At night, tourists can enjoy Thai traditional music and dance performances or join numerous activities such as bamboo dancing, drinking “rượu cần” as sitting around fire. People here leaves an indelible impression by their friendliness and hospitality.
Mai Chau offers a wide range of special mountainous dishes including the cơm lam (rice cooked in a bamboo pipe, served with grilled boar meat and citronella salt), gà đồi (hill chicken), xôi nếp nương (sticky rice planted in terraced-fields), Mai Ha wine and different kinds of grilled meat.
